Fear #24: Morbius, the Living Vampire in "Return to Terror!"

Download Adventure Into Fear #24

Here's the excellent conclusion of the Steve Gerber & P. Craig Russel crafted Morbius three-part story arc. I never guessed as a kid that Blade, the vampire slayer, would star in his own movies someday.

  1. Boy, did I like this comic. Great stuff. I love how incredibly grandiose the details are, and how involved the story is. Details like a race of barbarians that worship a spaceship, who are turned to ashes when I and Morbius take off! I love how Morbius drinks I's blood during the trip back to earth!

I was also not familiar with the artwork of Russel and Abel befoer this. I really enjoyed it! -- Mykal

  2. I had much the same reaction! Firstly, the artwork came as a revelation--Russell's work was some of his finest, and I enjoyed his nods to Steranko. Now, bear in mind, I'm just talking about the opening scene--and that spaced-out jazz on the alien planet. Once they got back on Earth, I lost interest. I don't dig the civilian drag.

Still talking about the opening scene, here--the writing was fantasy SF at its best! very imaginative--I wonder how much of the invention was Russel's and how much the writer or editor...

I missed this first time around--didn't even know Morbius had his own book--so I'm beholden to yez.
    Thanks!

  3. Oh, I forgot to mention how much I liked Jack Abel's inks! I've never seen work like this from him! It looks like Sinnot--which is one of the highest compliments I can think of (I can't say it looks like Palmer, cuz that's a diff approach entirely, but it IS THAT GOOD). I think part of the reason his inks are so effective in the first 10 pages--I'm still writing ONLY about the first scene--is that there are no human faces! If Abel had to ink any human faces, the jig wd be up! Abel's faces look awful!
